Is this right for me?
The right support depends on the right fit.
PERMA Pathways is a structured, content-rich hypnotherapy
and wellbeing programme. For the right person, at the right time, that
structure can be powerful.
But it is not right for everyone at every stage.
This page is here to help you consider whether PERMA
Pathways, standard Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, or another form of
support may be the most appropriate next step.
This is not about persuading you.
It is about fit, timing, capacity, and the kind of support
that will genuinely serve you now.
Good therapeutic work begins with honesty
The most useful support is not simply the most
impressive-looking programme.
It is the support that fits your present needs, capacity,
goals, and circumstances.
PERMA Pathways involves reflection, between-session work,
self-hypnosis, workbooks, and a structured 10-session pathway. That can be
exactly what some people are looking for.
For others, it may be too much too soon.
That does not mean anything has gone wrong.
It means the first task may be stabilisation, regulation,
sleep, support, or simply having one useful session at a time.
The aim is not to push you into the most structured option.
The aim is to identify the next useful step.
Sometimes the right first step is gentler
Standard Solution Focused Hypnotherapy may be more
appropriate if a structured programme feels like too much right now.
It may be a better fit if:
This is not a lesser option.
It is simply a different kind of support.
Sometimes the most useful next step is not a full pathway.
Sometimes it is one good session, one useful conversation, and one small
movement in the right direction.
PERMA Pathways is not crisis support
There are times when neither PERMA Pathways nor standard
hypnotherapy is the right first step.
Another form of support may be more appropriate if:
In those situations, the right support may involve your GP,
NHS services, emergency services, a crisis team, a psychiatrist, a counsellor,
a trauma specialist, or another appropriately qualified professional.
That is not failure.
It is good care.
The right support at the wrong time can still be the wrong
support.
A calm conversation about fit and next steps
The first step is a suitability conversation.
This is not a sales call. It is not a pressure conversation.
It is a chance for both of us to consider whether working together is
appropriate.
We may discuss:
Sometimes the answer will be yes.
Sometimes the answer will be not yet.
Sometimes another form of support will be more appropriate.
All of those outcomes are useful.
The purpose is clarity.
Rapport, trust, and professional fit matter
Choosing the right support is not only about choosing the
right method.
It is also about choosing the right person.
A useful therapeutic relationship should feel collaborative,
respectful, and clear. You should feel able to ask questions about training,
professional standards, fees, how sessions work, what is expected between
sessions, and whether the approach is right for you.
In my work, I place strong emphasis on:
You remain the expert on your own lived experience.
My role is to provide structure, guidance, therapeutic
trance, practical tools, and a clear process for moving forward.
Ask yourself three questions
If you are unsure which route is right, start here:
1. Do I have enough capacity for structured work?
PERMA Pathways asks you to reflect, practise, read, listen,
experiment, and build between sessions.
If that feels interesting, useful, and manageable, it may be
a good fit.
If that feels overwhelming, standard SFH may be a better
first step.
2. Am I looking for a programme or a gentler starting
point?
If you want a clear pathway over 10 sessions, PERMA Pathways
may suit you.
If you want to take things one session at a time, standard
SFH may be more appropriate.
3. Am I functioning, but not really flourishing?
If this phrase lands deeply, PERMA Pathways may be worth
exploring.
If daily functioning is currently significantly affected,
stabilisation may need to come first.
There is no wrong answer.
There is only the next useful step.
Ready to explore fit?
If you recognise yourself in the PERMA Pathways description
— functioning, but not really flourishing, and ready for structured wellbeing
development — the next step is a suitability conversation.
If you are unsure, that is also a good reason to get in
touch.
We can consider together whether PERMA Pathways, standard
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, or another form of support is the most
appropriate next step.
