Standard Solution Focused Hypnotherapy

One session at a time. One useful step at a time.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy offers flexible, one-to-one

support for people who would benefit from a gentler, more responsive approach

before, instead of, or prior to PERMA Pathways.

It combines solution-focused conversation with therapeutic

trance to help you move from problem-focused thinking toward calmer, clearer,

more resourceful states.

This may be the right starting point if life currently feels

too unstable for a structured programme, or if you would prefer to work one

session at a time.

Sometimes the right support is gentler and more flexible

PERMA Pathways is a structured, content-rich 10-session

programme. That can be powerful for the right person at the right time.

But it is not always the right first step.

Standard Solution Focused Hypnotherapy may be more

appropriate if:

  • Life currently feels too unstable for a structured programme

  • Anxiety, low mood, anger, stress, or poor sleep are significantly affecting day-to-day functioning

  • The idea of between-session work feels overwhelming

  • You want support without committing to a full programme

  • Stabilisation is the priority before deeper wellbeing development

  • You would prefer to work at your own pace, one session at a time

This is not a lesser option.

It is simply a different kind of support.

Sometimes the next useful step is not a full

pathway. Sometimes it is one good session, one useful conversation, and one

small movement in the right direction.

A future-focused, collaborative way of working

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy combines Solution Focused

Brief Therapy with therapeutic trance.

The emphasis is not on endlessly analysing the past. It is

on helping you understand what is happening now, notice what is already

improving, identify useful next steps, and support your brain and body in

moving toward calmer, more resourceful states.

The approach is collaborative.

You are not treated as a passive recipient. You remain the

expert on your own lived experience. My role is to help you access your own

resources, clarify your direction of travel, and strengthen your ability to

respond rather than react.

The work is grounded in a simple practical idea:

Use the present to build the preferred future.

This draws on your existing SFH material around

future-focused, goal-oriented, collaborative therapy and the pragmatic

principles of Solution Focused Brief Therapy.

Support for stress, anxiety, low mood, sleep, confidence,

and change

People often come to Solution Focused Hypnotherapy when they

recognise that something needs to change, but they are not yet sure what the

best structure for that change should be.

Standard SFH may help with areas such as:

  • Stress and overwhelm

  • Anxiety and worry

  • Low mood and loss of motivation

  • Anger or emotional reactivity

  • Sleep and recovery

  • Confidence and self-belief

  • Habits and patterns

  • Overthinking and rumination

  • Life transitions

  • Building steadier routines and responses

Because this work is holistic, people sometimes notice

improvements in areas they did not originally come to work on. For example,

working on stress may support sleep. Working on confidence may affect

relationships. Working on habits may create more energy and clarity.

The aim is not simply to reduce symptoms.

The aim is to help you begin moving in a better direction.

Calm conversation. Useful direction. Therapeutic trance

A typical Solution Focused Hypnotherapy session is

structured, but flexible.

We may include:

  • A brief review of what has improved, shifted, or been noticed since the previous session

  • A conversation about what would be useful now

  • Practical explanation of relevant ideas or models

  • Identifying small next steps

  • Therapeutic trance or guided hypnosis

  • A short recap and agreement about what to notice or practise before the next session

The focus is on what helps you move forward.

That does not mean ignoring difficulty. It means not

allowing the difficulty to become the whole story.

Trance is not about losing control

Many people arrive with understandable questions about

hypnosis:

Will I still be in control?

Will I remember what happens?

Can I get stuck?

Will someone be “doing hypnosis to me”?

The answer is simpler than the myths suggest.

Therapeutic trance is usually experienced as a focused,

absorbed state. You remain in control. You are not asleep. You are not being

controlled. You are not being made to do anything against your will.

In my work, trance is collaborative.

It is something we do together to support calmer, clearer,

more resourceful states. Over time, you can also develop your own self-hypnosis

skills so the benefits are not limited to the therapy room.

Modern hypnotherapy is not about dependency:

It is about building your agency.

A grounded, professional approach

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy draws on Solution Focused

Brief Therapy, a collaborative and future-focused therapeutic approach with an

established evidence base.

My own practice combines Solution Focused Hypnotherapy with

positive psychology, structured reflection, therapeutic trance, and a strong

emphasis on building your own agency.

The right therapist matters.

Fit matters. Rapport matters. Professional standards matter.

You should feel able to ask about qualifications, professional membership,

insurance, ongoing development, how sessions work, and whether the approach is

right for you.

Good therapeutic work begins with honesty.

Sometimes standard SFH is the right starting point.

Sometimes PERMA Pathways is more appropriate. Sometimes another form of support

may be needed first.

The first conversation helps us discern that.

Flexible support, one session at a time

Standard Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is available on a

session-by-session basis.

It may be the right route if you want flexible support,

prefer to work at your own pace, or need a gentler starting point before

considering a structured programme.

Session fee: £80 per session

Session length: usually around 60 minutes

Format: online 1:1 sessions

The first step is a suitability conversation.

That conversation is not about persuading you. It is about

understanding what you are looking for and whether standard SFH, PERMA

Pathways, or another form of support is the most appropriate next step.
